Whats For Dinner
Whats For Dinner
What's For Dinner is a recipe memory game. You choose a dish, and the work is picking the correct ingredients, in the correct quantities, in the correct order, with the recipe shown once rather than kept on screen.
That is the whole mechanic and it is what separates it from the service games: nothing is timed against a queue, and nothing burns. What is being tested is whether you were paying attention when the recipe appeared.
Points come from working both quickly and accurately, so a dish done right slowly scores less than the same dish done right promptly. Working through all the dishes finishes it.
How to play Whats For Dinner
Read, remember, assemble
- Read the recipe while it is on screen. It is the only time it is shown in full.
- Pick the ingredients it named, not the ones that look right for the dish.
- Match the quantities as well as the items. Both are checked.
- Follow the preparation order. A correct set of ingredients in the wrong sequence still fails the dish.
Controls
Mouse only. The game is Flash through an emulator with no touch support, so a phone will show it but cannot play it.
Tips and strategy
Memorise the quantities rather than the ingredients, since the items are usually guessable from the dish and the amounts never are. Work steadily instead of fast: the score rewards accuracy more than speed, and a wrong pick costs more than the seconds saved. Repeating a dish you failed is the quickest way to learn its order.
