Princess Kitchen Stories: Birthday Cake
Princess Kitchen Stories: Birthday Cake
Princess Kitchen Stories: Birthday Cake starts before the kitchen, which is what sets it apart from most cake games. Annie is baking for her best friend, and the first thing she has to do is go and buy what she needs.
The shop trip means the ingredient list is a real list: get it wrong and the recipe is short of something. After that the game settles into the familiar shape, following the steps in order until the cake comes out of the oven.
The decorating at the end is the reward rather than the test. Cream, fruit and chocolate are there to be arranged however the cake suits you, with nothing timed and nothing marked, which keeps the whole thing comfortably on the young side of the genre.

Tips and strategy
Check the list against the basket before leaving the shop, because that is the only part of the game where something can actually be missing later. Follow the recipe order rather than doing the easy steps first. Leave the decorating until the cake has cooled on screen and then take your time, as nothing is counting.
