Penguin Diner
Penguin Diner
Penguin Diner is a waitressing game rather than a cooking one. Penny the penguin is stranded far from home with no money, so she opens a diner on the ice and works her way back by serving customers.
The difference from a counter game is that you move. Guests arrive at the door, you walk them to a free table, take the order, carry it from the kitchen and come back for the money, and every one of those trips costs steps. The game is really about routing: how few journeys you can make while nobody is left waiting.
It is the game that taught a generation of browser players what a time management game is, and it still reads clearly.
How to play Penguin Diner
Seat, order, serve, collect
- Seat arrivals as they come in. An empty table with a queue at the door is the most expensive thing on screen.
- Take orders in batches. Walking to three tables on one trip beats three separate trips to the kitchen.
- Collect finished plates on the way past rather than as a separate errand, because the path matters more than the speed.
- Pick up payment promptly, since a table is not free again until the money is off it.
Controls
Click or tap a guest, a table or a plate, and Penny walks there. It plays on a phone as well as a computer.
Tips and strategy
Plan the trip, not the task. Every journey should do at least two things: drop a plate and take an order, or collect money and seat an arrival. Patience bars drain while Penny is walking, so the shortest route through the room beats the fastest clicking by a wide margin.

Frequently asked questions
Is Penguin Diner free?
Yes, free in the browser, with no account and no payment, on a phone or a computer.
Are there other Penguin Diner games?
The series ran to several sequels that move Penny to new locations. The original is the one on this page, and it is the one most people are looking for.
Does Penguin Diner work on a phone?
Yes. It is an HTML5 build, so tapping does everything a mouse does.
Why do customers leave?
Each guest has a patience bar that drains from the moment they arrive, including while Penny is walking. Seating them quickly matters more than serving them quickly.
